Jaden really enjoys the song, "Itsy Bitsy Spider." So much so that I use it to soothe him if he's annoyed or upset. If he starts screaming, I start singing and he stops to listen with a smile. It's quite funny. Sometimes when I sing it, he laughs at me!
Jaden's sleep at night is getting better and better every day. Sometimes he won't wake until 4:30 in the morning to eat. I can't complain; that's an amazing night for him. I shouldn't say anymore for I may jinx it...
My friend at work came in on her last day with her MacBook (an Apple laptop). Her sister just had a baby and she was able to create a hardbound brag book from iPhoto, a mac program. It looked amazing! You can choose a background for every page of the book, include text and picture borders. The books are also pretty cheap - $50 - considering how much we wanted to spend on one with our photographer (over $1k?) Once you format the book, you send it off to a company that prints, binds and mails them to you, all with the click of a button in iPhoto. She opened my eyes to what you can do with a Mac - which is pretty much all things creative (even fun, edited videos!). So, a Mac laptop made my wish list. With it, I would like to create a photo book for every year of Jaden's life. Perhaps it will be our Christmas presents to the whole family every year as well? We'll see...I'll have to save my pennies for one as they don't come cheap...

Jaden has seemingly mastered the art of rotating on his stomach and in such a short time, no less! He rolls on his stomach now with ease; as soon as we lay him on his back on the floor, he's on his stomach by the time we stand back up. I was sitting on the couch, watching TV when I noticed he rolled over. A minute later, I noticed he was facing the opposite direction from where he started. You have to watch closely, or else you'll miss his subtle rotation. He's obviously very proud of himself! I estimate he will start crawling in the next month or so. Stay tuned for that...
Last night, Mike and I woke up at around 4:30 in the morning to Jaden playing in his play yard. He was talking to himself, trying to "practice" rolling on his tummy (I hear babies proudly practice at night once they master certain milestones). He was unable, however, as he sleeps in a "wedge" that positions the baby so as to avoid rollovers. He somehow managed to scoot himself up to the top of his play yard, where he eventually fell asleep.
Jaden can now fall asleep on his own, without being rocked. This is a HUGE deal for us because it will make his crib transition that much easier. There are occassions where he fusses and we have to resort to a quick rock, but for the most part he's learned how to fall asleep unassisted.
I'm looking at investing in a new camera for better shots of the baby. Nothing too fancy, but something that will take better quality images since I'm taking so many of them. Picasa has the most recent images; I will try to take more throughout the week when I get a chance...

What's with the eyebrows?
Jaden can sit up haphazardly now, beating his end-of-five month milestone by a month. His posture is obviously poor, but he'll be good on his own by mid March. For now, he uses his hands to prop himself up, and maybe even some of the chubby belly when he sits forward. :)
Today is also Jaden's 5 month birthday! Time flies...when you're lacking sleep.
So, what's with the eyebrows? They look like a they're penciled in:

Picasa
I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! Mike was (and still is) sick all weekend so not a lot of activity here. An update on the Picasa site - I've done some editing and deleted about 200 pictures as Picasa has a cap of 500 photos. I reached that cap plus 100, so in order for you to see the new pics I've had to cut it down.

Fozzie Bear
Tomorrow will be the first time since the baby was born that Mike and I will have a nice dinner, uninterrupted. We're celebrating Valentine's Day a bit early this year as we didn't think it was right to ask friends to watch the baby on the actual day (although they were certainly willing! Thanks, Michelle!). Our wonderful Mimi (daycare provider) will be watching him while we have dinner at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. We've made reservations for a special 10-course meal (yes, you read that correctly) at a french restaurant called El Bizcocho (French cuisine with a spanish name??) which will take a little under three hours to finish. Wish us luck!Jaden has discovered new consonants and seems to be reciting his vowels. Every morning when he wakes up he lays in his bed talking to himself for about twenty minutes until he's ready to join us in our bed. Mike is trying to teach him how to day "Dadda" so I wouldn't be surprised that it will be his first word. It's amazing how different his speech sounds every day.
The boy also likes to watch Sesame Street in the mornings. This is the only way that we can get ready for work in peace! Maybe that's what he's learning new consonants from...
Jaden also has learned (and thoroughly enjoys) the thrill of the chase. Every time we get ready for bed and head upstairs, I'm holding him and daddy follows close behind. This makes him scream and laugh with delight! Even when we're chasing daddy, he thinks it's the best thing in the world.

Jumperoo
At daycare, Jaden has grown fond of the Jumperoo - a variant of the exersaucer, only it has bouncing capability. The whole weekend, Jaden was trying to jump in his exersaucer, so Daddy decided it was time to go out and buy one for our home. We took this footage during his first "ride" of his new Jumperoo:

(Slightly) Sick Baby
Last night, Jaden had a runny, stuffy nose and slight fever. Nothing that a dose of Tylenol couldn't fix, though. He's feeling better today, and to prove it I've attached a video:
Jaden has been sleeping through the night for the past three nights now (knock on wood) and it has been a welcome reprieve from the miserable, sleepless nights. I've also been wary of having him sleep in the bed and have pretty much broke him (or, me) of that habit.
Sorry for the inactivity on Picasa as far as picture posts; our camera has been dead for about a week. The battery's now charged so expect to see some pics in the upcoming week.
Also note that, due to concern over Jaden's growing melon, I have corrected the previous post indicating his head circumference from inches to cm. Not my fault - the nurse wrote it down for us incorrectly and I didn't even think twice about it. Don't worry - his head growth is normal! Mommy and Daddy have big melons, so he's genetically correct in that area. :)

Jaden Video
I realize I haven't "blogged" in a while, so in an effort to tide you over, I have attached a video of Jaden and Daddy taken from my Blackberry. It's obviously not the best quality but you get the picture.
As far as updates go, the boy has still been consistent in waking up every two hours during the night to nurse. Sometimes he'll wake every half an hour! It's really starting to take its toll on us and I've finally broke out Dr. Ferber's book, Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. There's a technique called "ferberizing" in which you allow your baby to cry it out (in a controlled setting) so that they learn to fall asleep on their own without the assistance of Mommy or Daddy. It may sound inhumane to some, but for many babies it's the primary technique that will give you the results you need, and quickly. They say, "if you resent it, change it." So, we're changing his sleeping habits so we can get the much needed sleep we deserve. I discussed this with the Pediatrician as well and she said that working moms need to often do this. So, I don't feel so bad.
Don't worry, he'll be OK!
I'll leave you with a funny note: The other day, I was changing the baby's diaper on our bed. I took his diaper off and while I was reaching for another, he peed all over the place! I turned because I heard his pee hit the plastic tub of baby wipes. When I asked, "Did you pee?!" He laughed at me.
